"iGen: Turning Distress Into Success"
What Every Trusted Adult Needs To Know About Screen Time and Social Media Impact
This session will highlight the damaging and sometimes hidden impact screen time and social media has on the developing brain. As trusted adults on campus it is crucial that teachers, administrators, law enforcement, and parents work in tandem when issues arise. Katey will lead a session that gives adult keen insight into the hidden world our tweens and teens live in and why they choose social media, texting, gaming, and online platforms as their voice. Practical solutions and strategies in your approach with kids and parents will provide a better opportunity to support our youth through the formative years with social-emotional supports that make sense.
"The Art and Science of Inspiring Boys and Building Men"
As a teacher, administrator, coach, and researcher, Troy has been able to study our male population both academically and anecdotally. Boys and young men are harder to motivate than we might realize, but there are proven ways of reaching them that match their learning styles with their social emotional strengths; ways that fit with both a boy’s nature and the best of our larger culture. Once we position our academic and educational institutions within those strengths, young males gravitate to our organizations and develop a will to serve the greater good. Devoting his life and career to male development has given Troy both a passion for helping our children thrive and a base of insight for challenging organizations that serve young males to become the best they can be. Practical and immediate solutions will be given that are easily implemented on campus and beyond the school walls.
"Street, Script, And Synthetic: Addictive and Deadly"
This session will focus on today’s most abused substances; where they come from, what they look like and how their potent effects are killing individuals and devastating families. Yet, the biggest impact is usually felt on the rest of society… as drug use is not a victimless crime. An in depth discussion on loopholes in the law, lack of knowledge, limited resources and how low public expectations areimpacting communities on a larger scale will be addressed. A specific focus will be spent on the role of law enforcement and how we can all work in tandem with parents, schools, and youth to be more educated and aware as a community while building supports and networks to assist.
