Mike Johnson was hired by the Fishers Police Department in June of 1993 and has served 25 years with the department. During his career, he has served as a patrol officer, a field training officer, a shift sergeant and shift lieutenant. Mike was the CALEA Accreditation Manager for FPD for 13 years and oversaw the department’s four accreditation awards during that time and served CALEA as an assessor.
Mike was one of the early DARE Officers at Fishers PD joining the program in 1995; only 4 years after the program began locally. Mike is still an active DARE Officer and has taught over 5,000 students in the 5th grade curriculum alone. Add to that the 7th and 8th grade classes and that number is nearly 11,000 students. Mike has been a member of the DARE Indiana Training team since 1999; helping to certify nearly 200 DARE Officers. Mike has also served on the board of directors for DARE Indiana and was named the Indiana DARE Officer of the year in 1999.
Mike is a National Association of School Resource Officers (NASRO) Certified National Safe School Practitioner, a NASRO Instructor and an Indiana Safe School Specialist. In July of 2014, Mike was appointed to the Indiana School Safety Specialist Advisory Committee. He is an "ALiCE enhanced Lockdown” Instructor and has attended the NASRO Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED) Practitioner course. Mike currently supervises the SRO unit at FPD which consists of 6 SROs serving 21,000 students in the Hamilton Southeastern School District.
Mike has been married to Teresa for 23 years and has 3 boys ages 19 (Michael), 16 (Ben) and 7 (Mitchell). Mike attended Ball State University where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in 1993. He grew up on the Southside of Indianapolis and attended Southport High School.
